i wonder if anyone could advise please, i m on methetexate and sulphalazine and liver function has allways been ok, i have bloods done every 8 weeks. last week my result was 158 gp advised no meds until the morning then call rhummy nurse. I spoke to her the next morning and was advised stop all meds including diclo can only use pain releif. i m a bit worried as im thinking will i have a flare? im having increased ankle pain and was intending to let them know at next apt in Feb but they are now sending me out an early apt with consultant. also advised i need another blood test in two weeks to look at any improvement. has anyone had a similar result? will i miss the meds much? do you think they will put me back on them all if bloods are better? i m worried because of work. i m still able to go in at the minuite but worried i might not if things get worse.Oh and how bad is the result. I would really appreciate any info or advice. This rhuematoid is a very annoying unpredictable horrid thing for sure. I forgot im also allowed my amytripiline to help with sleep, i thought it was nt doing much but looking at my spelling maybe im wrong

Hi Kathy
I know they are always very careful with these drugs, hence we have these tests done so frequently. Although on mtx for about 9 mths. I don t know a lot about the tests but I m sure you will get some good advice on the forum. Sorry that your sleeping has been so affected, hope you have a better one tonight.

You do not say which liver function test was abnormal. I am assuming it is ALT (as this is the only one I have to record in my MTX book) The lab reference range is 3-60.
Lab ranges for the other LFTs are:
GGT 4-18 ALP 30-120 Albumin 35-55 Bilirubin 1-20

Hi Kathy,
I have had to stop mtx in the past because of high liver enzymes , it's happened to quite a lot of us on here. Usually the blood levels soon go back to normal and you can restart the drugs In my case I was only off mtx for 2 weeks. The drugs do stay in your system for about 6 weeks. When I was on Sulphasalazine I had to stop it completely due to high liver enzymes. Hopefully your next blood test will show improvement.......one thing in your favour, it's getting you an earlier appointment with the consultant! Let us know how you go on.
Love Doreen xx

Hi Most likly it will be the mtx They stop it then start it again when liver count is lower Liver count is v sensitive to booze on the mtx so even a glass or 2 within 3 days of bloods can put it right up Also Mine has been in the 400s is now off the mtx and totally normal So it does recover how to be a velvet bulldoser

Hi Kathy
Agree with Doreen. This has happened to me once or twice. I have come off the meds and the bloods have returned to normal. Try not to worry as it will sort itself out.

Hello Kathy
I to had to come off mtx on 2 ocassions due to upset liver count, but restarted again after a few weeks Then the 3rd time it went wobbly I was not allowed to go back on it again.
Try not to worry and it is a good job you seeing consultant earlier
Let us know how you got on
